In todays society, people are trying to break away more and more from the norm, and whats considered acceptable. We are becoming a more liberal country and people are becoming more able to express radical ideas and express themselves artistically and freely. Probably the most common way people express themselves, is through fashion. The trend of extremely tight pants has made a huge comeback, probubly because it was the trend of the 80's punk movement. They were all about defiance, and in a sence thats what people are trying to achieve. Wev'e moved away from the paris hilton bimbo look, and more towards the nichole richie indi look. High waisted tight skirts have also come back, on girls such as katy perry. Katy Perry has the typical pin-up betty page look, in which high waisted clothes were the fashion on her era. Her time period represents the explosion of sex appeal. Again, fashion statements that once had revolutionary meaning are making a comeback in a hip new way. Peoples clothes are constantly getting tighter and tighter, which obviously makes one more body concience. Wer'e brainwashed to feel we need to look flawless even when naked, when in reality clothes are made to cover up our flaws!

I feel as if everything in our society is surrounded around sex appeal. Fashion of course is a major part in that. Of course I am obsessed with fashion among many girls, so I own the typical tight straight leg, dark denim to vibrant pink. As well as those high waisted skirts. Whats great though about fashion trends repeating themselves is that you can raid your moms, or even your grandma's old clothes are find items more genuine than any thing one would find at H&M or Nordstrom. Possibly even cooler that items at Rag O Rama. -Noelle Perkowski
ReplyDeleteI personally like tight clothes but for guys I think that alittle suspect lol
ReplyDeleteI agree....Clothes are so small these days at stores. The "average" woman these days can't even go into abercrombie and buy a large because in there clothing a large is like a small compared to say a macy's size. It makes shopping for cute clothes, hard because if your not a size ZERO you have to dig to find a decent outfit.

I don't understand how wearing tight clothes is an act of defiance. I don't think it shows anybody up. It does show a tight ass though. Anyways, I think it's interesting.

ReplyDeleteFashion is cyclical. Just wait. Your grandkids will be wearing the ridiculously baggy stuff you wore in middle school.

The clothing that you try to buy at stores these days are so little. I refuse to shop at plaes like Holister and Abercrombie due to the fact that you have to get like an XXL for it to even come close to fitting you right. I work in the world of retail and now almost everything that we are getting in our stores (old Navy) is coming in slim fit. Guys are also all the time now buying girls jeans. I dont think that this is good for their health, it is going to effect them whenever they try to have kids one day. Even t-shirts will have a tag that says slim or tight fit. I think that it is crazy. I also would never be caught in a pair of skinny jeans.
